RAMON CASTELLS
MISSION TO MARS

RAMON CASTELLS, AN IBIZA LEGEND, AN ICON OF THE BALEARIC BEAT SOUND AND SPACE IBIZA 10 YEAR RESIDENT DJ JOINS US FOR OUR SONIC MISSIONS TO MARS. WE ASK IMPORTANT QUESTIONS AND GET TO KNOW THE CURRENT SOUNDS OF ONE OF THE MOST INFLUENTIAL WHITE ISLAND MAESTROS

Good evening Ramon many thanks for taking part and joining us on our mission……

Thank you for having me it's a pleasure!

Before we get right into it, can you tell us a bit of a description of the mix you’ve sent us?

This session includes ethnic sounds at house speed. It contains a certain forcefulness and at the same time good energy. I choose this style because it is very current, as the sounds of nature always will be.

We first heard your sets way back in the 90’s on the terrace at Space, Ibiza, totally awesome we must say, how did those days feel and how does that compare to now?

The situation was different, the energy also exceeded the current one. Previously people came to celebrate a party, currently the situation has changed. Now we have better machines, but the essence has been distorted.

Great stuff now for the Mission to Mars!

Let's pretend and fast forward to the year 2033, and NASA announces they are selecting an elite few to be the first of mankind to touch down on Mars. Based on your resounding intelligence, witty humour, skills and good looks - You have been chosen! Question is, would you accept a one way ticket?

The truth is that in principle no, since I am very suspicious of the system used to arrive, but due to this special invitation I gratefully accept to be part of this historic event

Brilliant! You are the chosen Commander! There's a big old space ship waiting to be named..... What are you going to call her?

"The ideal name would be freedom, since it is good to remember that everyone is free"

Tricky one but you have to make the decision... If you can take anyone – past or present – fact or fiction - What 3 space cadets are you going to take with you on your adventure of a lifetime?

Danny Tenaglia, for his ability to make electronic music fun and interesting.
Paul Van Dike: For increasing the speed of the music without straying from the good feeling.
Jose Padilla: For knowing how to distinguish the authentic emotion that each piece of music gives off.

Crew and spaceship ready, the final countdown has begun. Now you have just one day left on Earth ........what would you do?

Last day on earth dedicated to eating the best quality, practicing sports, visiting wonderful places in nature and visiting good friends.

It takes 7 months for you and your teams quest to Mars. 7 months! You are allowed a choice of 5 records to play on the Inflight Space Entertainment system– which belters do you take with you?

Antonio Vivaldi - Four Seasons

Sade - Love Deluxe

Mano Chao - Clandestino

Leftfield - Leftism

Jean Michel Jarre - Oxygene

You’ve made it! Now time to make things like home... What Netflix series would you choose to watch?

I don't watch netflix, but I propose a movie that will make you think, without Limitless

A new planet needs new rules and regulations. You can write one law on planet Mars that everyone has to obey by, what law would you put in place and why?

That art and creativity never lack, since it is a basic faculty that the human being needs to promote and that is totally beneficial for everyone

Things have got a little hairy, you are in a sticky situation and stood face to face with a 3 eyed,15ft neon green Alien and about to get into a bust up! What song comes on as as your chosen kick ass sound track.

Finally, you are allowed one phone call back to Earth, who do you call?

To my girlfriend or my best friend, David Tort, he would surely understand me :)

Okay now TDDUD wants to find out a little more about you....

Describe a heart warming, skin tingling, goosey memorable moment from your musical journey so far?

Living like in Space Ibiza you enjoyed a session of mine for more than 10 hours due to some last minute changes and covering a deejay who couldn't come. Checking how the party kept increasing everything and the passing of the hours was a real pleasure, for my enjoyment and especially for all those present.

If you can name anything, what is your best ever / worse ever musical purchase?

One of the best moments when i found in Manila a Record shop (Initially i was searching for OPM
(original filipino music) but i found a collection of Euro disco, Italo & disco - all for 3 dollar each and most of the records where hard to find and worth hundreds of Dollars. I ended up buying nearly 200 Records there. That was a great find
!

Carmina Burana - O Fortuna

Tell us something we don't know…

Curious but, most of my free time at the SPACE Ibiza nightclub, was not spent on the dance floor, but was with my fellow audio technicians in their workshop attached to the club. I loved talking to them about technical issues and anecdotes of the night.

Oops. I need to hide a body. Any ideas?

I hope it's not true, but if it is, under the cement, but remember that Karma acts!

Would you rather go to a super Club, House party. Local boozer or small get together with 4 or 5 close friends over dinner at home?

I would give my friends the option to choose, but I would highly value the tranquility of friendship in my home

Lastly, we all like a good affirmation at TDDUD HQ....... What is your life’s Mantra?

From this life you will really get everything you want!
